Inclusion of children and young people with disabilities into the educational process and a fulfilling social life is one of the key objectives of the civilized society. The project is aimed at creation of an inclusive environment, removal of social and mental barriers to disabled people.
Goals and objectives: Create conditions providing for equal opportunities in the sphere of education and recreation for disabled children and young people based on the principles of inclusion and accessibility.
Interim outcomes: The first meeting of the project partners – disabled children and their children, representatives of local authorities, educational institutions and experts – was held in November 2016.
A regional seminar and three training workshops were held to replenish knowledge in the field of arrangement of inclusive urban mobility. They were attended by 145 representatives of city administration, educational institutions, NGOs, corporations, specialized urban services.
Four workshops on inclusive education were arranged for 80 persons. Local school, college and university teachers, senior students, social pedagogues, school psychologists and students' parents underwent the training.
Belarusian project participants made study trips to Poland and Germany, where they could learn about the best practices in the field of inclusive education and sustainable urban mobility.
The project website – novinclusion.by – was developed for promoting the principles of inclusive society.
The construction of an elevator in Navapolack Secondary School # 8, which has inclusive classes, was completed in March of 2018. It allows disabled children to visit classes on all storeys of the school.
Equipment for a remote learning classroom was procured for children unable to go to school. The classes began in November 2017.
Conditions for disabled children were also created in the City Children and Youth Palace: the central entry and a ramp, the musical theater/choreography premises, assembly hall and rest room were adapted. That made classes in the Palace accessible for a larger number of disabled children, thus expanding their social communication sphere.
