What do we offer?

A paid six-month traineeship for a young graduate within the Political Section of the EU Delegation to Thailand.

Main tasks:

  • Gather and monitor daily incoming information;
  • Analyse political and human rights developments in Thailand;
  • Assist in political reporting;
  • Draft background notes on specific issues;
  • Contribute to administrative tasks as required;
  • Assist in preparing the daily press review;
  • Attend conferences and seminars upon request and report back.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate should possess the following qualifications:

  •  Interest in – and preferably prior knowledge of – Thai politics and the human rights situation in Thailand;
  •  Excellent English language skills;
  •  Self-motivation and ability to work independently;
  •  Ability to handle politically sensitive issues in a responsible manner;
  •  Excellent analytical and drafting skills;
  •  Thai language skills would be an additional asset.

Are you eligible for a paid traineeship? Yes, if you:

  • Are a young graduate with at least a Bachelor's Degree (or equivalent) and a maximum of one year of professional experience;
  • Are an EU citizen, a Thai national, or a national from a pre-accession State;
  • Have no previous professional experience in the EU Institutions of more than six weeks.

Before applying, you are requested to examine the general eligibility criteria* for traineeships (Article 8 of the Decision ADMIN(2017)28 - Paid traineeship for young graduates).

Selection Process

Short-listed candidates will be requested to take a written test, which can be done by e-mail. Applicants who successfully pass the written test, will be invited for a short interview (in person OR by Skype). After the interview, offers will be made to the selected candidates.

Please send your cover letter (two A4 pages maximum) and a CV (two A4 pages maximum) in English to the following email address:

In the cover letter, please outline to what extent you possess the qualifications listed above and are able to complete the main tasks.

The deadline for applications is 29 June 2018 at 17:00 hrs (Thailand time).

Please indicate in your cover letter a traineeship reference, i.e. 'Paid Political Traineeship', and time period you will be available to undertake the traineeship. Please note that you must be available for a period of six months.

Documents required for selected candidates

  • Diploma
  • Language certificates
  • Passport/ID card
  • Police clearance certificate
  • Insurance certificate
  • Medical certificate

(These documents are not needed at the time of application, but only once the applicant has been selected)

Each selected trainee will receive a monthly grant to cover living expenses. For 2018, this amount is EUR 1,100 Euros per month (at the current exchange rate, approximately THB 41,000). However, costs related to travel, insurance, accommodation, and visa must be borne by the trainee.

Applications from non-eligible candidates will not be considered. Unsuccessful candidates will be notified by email. In case the selected candidate is not able to present the required documents, his/her candidacy will be rejected.
