Meet our Trainees

30.04.2024

Maurizio is a Trainee in the Head of Delegation Section and Permanent Representation of the EU to UNEP and UN Habitat.

What does a typical day look like in your Section?

Being a relatively small section gives me a margin of independence and need to be proactive. Usually, I have a debrief with my supervisor, discussing the main themes and documents that need to be assessed in preparation for the various meetings at the UN. We liaise with colleagues from the EU Commission and other EU Member States on the ground in Nairobi for inputs, resulting in a strong and common position to guide the valuable work of the UNEP and UN Habitat to tackle the planetary crisis of climate change, biodiversity loss and pollution. At times, I also collaborate with the Press, Political and Information Section at the EU Delegation supporting their various activities and work.

How is social life in Nairobi?

Nairobi is one of the most vibrant and cosmopolitan cities in the east-African region. Its cultural and nightlife scene will difficulty bore you along with its near-to-perfect climate and green areas. Nairobi is also great for the weekend, whether it is going for a run immersed in nature the city’s own forest or taking a daytrip to hike an extinct volcano or visit some of the breath-taking national parks and reserves in the country!
