From 20 to 22 May 2025, the European Union Ambassador to Kenya, H.E Henriette Geiger, and Ambassadors of Austria, H.E Dr. Christian Fellner; the Czech Republic, H.E Nicol Adamcová; Denmark, H.E Stephan Schønemann; Finland, H.E Pirkka Tapiola; France, H.E Arnaud Suquet; Germany, H.E Sebastian Groth; Ireland, H.E Catriona Ingoldsby; and Sweden, Charge d’Affairs Helge Flard, visited Samburu, Isiolo, and Laikipia counties to discuss with, and learn from, county governments leaders, business and industry representatives, academics and researchers as well as to strengthen the relationships between the European Union and the region. The visit highlights the EU’s commitment to supporting Kenya’s sustainable development through initiatives focused on climate and security, biodiversity conservation, and digital inclusion.
This joint visit continues the EU’s comprehensive engagement across Kenya, following previous joint visits to the coastal region of Mombasa, Kwale and Tana River in 2023, as well as last year’s visit to the western counties including Homa Bay and Migori. Through these engagements, the EU’s Team Europe demonstrates its holistic approach to addressing the interconnected challenges facing Kenya’s diverse regions.

Further activities included visits to Kalama Conservancy to explore rangeland restoration and carbon sequestration projects that promote climate resilience and peacebuilding among pastoralist communities. The delegation also launched the Attan Water Project in Nakupratt Conservancy, Isiolo, a vital initiative that improves access to water for both local communities and wildlife, helping reduce resource-based conflicts and fostering coexistence.
Additionally, the envoys meet county leaders and civil society organizations in Isiolo and Laikipia for dialogue on local conflict resolution efforts, digital spatial planning and digitization of land records supported by the EU-funded Digital Land Governance Programme, and cutting-edge conservation work at Ol Pejeta Conservancy aimed at protecting endangered wildlife such as the northern white rhino.
The EU’s coordinated efforts across multiple counties reflect the integrated nature of the Global Gateway strategy, combining climate action, biodiversity conservation, peacebuilding, and digital inclusion to support Kenya’s sustainable and inclusive development.
