Job vacancy: Project Officer (Temporary Position


Contribute to the effective implementation and monitoring of the EU-funded projects and programmes in Kenya in

the areas of private sector support, capacity development and regional programming, while participating also in

sector coordination in the same areas.


Main responsibilities

  • Oversee the process or launch, manage and monitor tenders and evaluations. 
  • Negotiate technical and financial aspects of contracts linked to the projects.
  • Ensure follow-up of the implementation of the projects and the performance of project managers and partners, monitor contractual obligations (via periodic reviews, audits, reporting and assistance, etc.) and gather and handle external expertise.
  • Organise, set-up and/or lead/participate in EU or wider donor coordination meetings in relation to the assigned topics, or when requested by a superior. Liaise closely with European and international development finance institutions.
  • Monitor regional programming and the implementation of regional projects covering Kenya.
  • Take an active part in the relations with the Ministry of Transport Infrastructure and Urban Development, County officials working on transport issues and specialised bodies created for promoting urban transport, transport infrastructure and transport safety, liaising closely with them in order to promote implementation of ongoing technical cooperation and identify and formulate envisioned technical cooperation (to be) funded by the European Development Fund.
  • Ensure proper reporting on the projects assigned, including in the electronic project monitoring and accounting system of the EU (CRIS).
  • Any other assignment that may be assigned.


Required Qualifications

  • University level education of legal duration of at least 3 years.
  • University diploma in engineering, architecture, spatial planning or transport or social sciences.
  • At least 2 years’ experience in managing donor-funded programmes, or in urban transport planning.
  • Past experience in an international working environment.
  • Excellent to fluent communication and writing skills in English (as a working language).
  • Ability to quickly adapt to new IT environments and tools.
  • Personal initiative and ability to work independently, to focus on priorities, to monitor and evaluate progress and to meet tight deadlines.
  • A high degree of integrity and the ability to deal with confidential information.

The position is open to nationals and other residents of Kenya with a valid working permit (compulsory).


The contract is for a limited duration of six (6) months with no renewal possibility.
