NUR-SULTAN – The European Union (EU) renewed the project “European Union – Central Asia Water, Environment and Climate Change Cooperation” (WECOOP) in October 2019. It is the third phase of the project and the new phase is intended to run for three years.
Almaty, 18 October 2019 – Today, Almaty Management University (hereinafter, Alma U) hosted an official reception on the occasion of the arrival of the first cohort of Afghan women in Kazakhstan that will start their studies as part of a project funded by the European Union (EU) and implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Kazakhstan.
The EU and its Member States are the second largest donors to the IAEA Nuclear Security Fund with EU contributions alone amounting to more than EUR 50 million for the period of 2009-2019. Furthermore, the EU has contributed more than EUR 24 million to the establishment and the secure management of a Low Enriched Uranium (LEU) Bank under the control of the IAEA. The financial contribution of over EUR 4 million aims to ensure that nuclear fuel is supplied in a secure and safe manner and to help the IAEA guarantee the security and safety of LEU transport from procurement to supply, and during storage at the Bank's site. Under the Instrument for Stability, the European Commission provided EUR 20 million for the purpose of acquiring the LEU.
The European Union (EU) and the Council of Europe firmly oppose the death penalty at all times and in all circumstances. The death penalty is a cruel, inhuman and degrading punishment contrary to the right to life. The death penalty means revenge, not justice, and its abolition contributes to the enhancement of human dignity.
NUR-SULTAN – The EU-Kazakhstan High-Level Platform of dialogue on economic and business matters held its second meeting in Nur-Sultan on 1 October, chaired by Kazakhstan Prime Minister Askar Mamin. The event brought together leading European companies and EU Heads of Mission led by EU Ambassador to the Republic of Kazakhstan Sven-Olov Carlsson.
NUR-SULTAN – Within the framework of the EU-funded project "Support for public administration capacity building in Turkmenistan" during 29 September – 2 October 2019 Kazakhstan hosts the third round of the working visit to learn about the development of Master’s programs from experience of Central Asian countries.
NUR-SULTAN – Today in the capital city #Kids4Rights children's drawing contest dedicated to the 30th Anniversary of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child has been announced. The competition is organized by the European Union Delegation to Kazakhstan jointly with the UNICEF in Kazakhstan, the Embassy of Belgium in Kazakhstan and the Embassy of Switzerland in Kazakhstan.
On the occasion of the International Day of Democracy, the European Union reaffirms its commitment towards democracy as a fundamental right of every human being. Every woman and every man has to be free to participate to the political, economic and social life of her or his country. No one should fear to speak up, to demonstrate peacefully, to go to vote or to expect fair and inclusive policies from a government. Democracy can only function if participation and trust between democratic state institutions, governments and citizens are guaranteed.
