Today at the international donors’ conference on nuclear remediation in London, the European Union has announced additional €10 million, in order to support its partners in Central Asia in dealing with toxic and radioactive waste in the Kyrgyz Republic, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. This comes on top of the €16 million, which the EU had already contributed to this end.
ASTANA — On November 2,2018, the EU-funded project “Reforming Legal Aid For the Vulnerable in Kazakhstan” implemented by the Eurasia Foundation of Central Asia (EFCA) held a national conference “Protecting the rights of vulnerable groups in Kazakhstan: in search of a new model of state-guaranteed legal aid” with the financial support of the Soros Foundation-Kazakhstan.
ASTANA – On 31 October the Final Conference of the joint EU/UNDP/UNECE project “Supporting Kazakhstan`s transition to a green economy model” and the opening ceremony of the pilot project «Construction of the high-technology greenhouse in the boreal region of the Republic of Kazakhstan - Astana city» took place. The Project has been implemented by the United Nations Development Program and funded by the European Union in Kazakhstan.
Democracy cannot live without free, diverse and independent media. Journalists and media actors across the globe hold states, government officials, corporations and society at large accountable for their actions. But far too many among them face threats and attacks simply for carrying out their work, while the perpetrators of these attacks often act with total impunity.
Erasmus+ Projects Fair opened at the L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University on 25 October. The opening ceremony was attended by the Head of Cooperation Section at the European Union Delegation to Kazakhstan Mr. Johannes Stenbaek Madsen, the Vice Minister of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan Mr. Askhat Aimagambetov, the ENU Rector Prof. Yerlan Sydykov, the Ambassador of Romania to Kazakhstan Mr. Cezar-Manole Armeanu, the Director of the National Erasmus+ Office Dr. Shaizada Tasbulatova, as well as leaders, staff and students of more than 50 Kazakh universities.
ASTANA – On 25-26 October European Commissioner for Health and Food Safety Vytenis Andriukaitis pays official visit to Astana to attend the Global Conference on "Primary Health Care: From Alma-Ata towards universal health coverage and the Sustainable Development Goals". Commissioner Andriukaitis will deliver the keynote speech at the high-level plenary session on advancing primary healthcare towards universal health coverage, as well as during the ministerial parallel sessions in the framework of the event.
ASTANA – On 12 October the opening of the photo project “Discover Europe with Kids” was held in Astana, which was organized by the European Union Delegation to Kazakhstan in the framework of the European Cultural Heritage Year and the 25th anniversary of the European Union - Kazakhstan diplomatic relations. The project partners are Kazakhstan Kids Fashion Show 2018 and Aspara Fashion Week.
On the European and World Day against the Death Penalty, the Council of Europe and the European Union (EU) reiterate their strong opposition to capital punishment in all circumstances and for all cases. The death penalty is an affront to human dignity. It constitutes cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment and is contrary to the right to life. The death penalty has no established deterrent effect and it makes judicial errors irreversible.
