The project aims to support countries of the region in implementing Sendai Framework priorities. The project will support strengthening regional coordination, including development of regional DRR strategy, regional data loss database, and enhancing the role of CESDRR as the center of excellence, the secretariat of regional platform for DRR, and a hub for regional coordination. The support on national level includes assistance in developing/adjusting national DRR strategies, disaster loss database, and establishment of national platforms for DRR. On the local level, the project will support assessment of resilience of major cities to disasters.
Methodology: A focus on a.) national disaster loss data (DLD) collection plans, b.) risk informed and accountable governance mechanisms, c.) local level resilience, and d.) community-based activities.
Main target groups: Governments of Central Asia countries; national stakeholders in DRR; research institutions and universities; economic development and social sector ministries; community groups.
Expected results: (1) Supporting the implementation of the Sendai Framework for DRR through data, governance and regional cooperation and (2) increased commitments to build local-level resilience.
Achievements to date: The Governments in the five countries confirmed their support of the project. The regional program coordinator in Almaty and five national technical officers in the capital cities of the region have been hired and are placed in the UNRC Offices and UN Country Teams to ensure close cooperation with the national represented UN Offices.
