Raising Awareness of Migration and COVID 19 through Graffiti and Street Art in Accra

28.05.2020

In a bid to fight the spread of COVID 19, the European Union (EU) in Ghana on Wednesday joined the International Organisation for Migration (IOM), the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) and artists from the Ghana Graffiti Collective, to launch an initiative to use street art and graffiti to create awareness about the virus and also to raise awareness on migration.

The artwork, which speaks about hope, tolerance, love and solidarity, is to make use of the unique power of street art to call upon everyone to stand together, and to stand with migrants. The project was made possible through EU-IOM Joint Initiative for Migration Protection and reintegration funded under the European Union Emergency Trust Fund for Africa (EUTF).

The Head of the European Union Delegation to Ghana, the Mayor of Accra, IOM officials and local authorities, jointly performed the launch.

The IOM stated that solidarity is more important than ever now that the world is hit by the COVID-19 crisis.
