VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

The European Commission’s Directorate-General for European Civil protection and Humanitarian aid Operations (ECHO), funds relief operations for victims of natural disasters and conflicts outside the European Union. For humanitarian aid, the Commission works with about 200 operational partners, including United Nation agencies, the Red Cross/Crescent movement and non-governmental organizations (NGOs). Aid is channeled impartially, straight to victims, regardless of their race, ethnic group, religion, gender, age, nationality or political affiliation.

The ECHO Office in Jordan is seeking to recruit one national staff to be based in Amman for the following position of:

Programme Assistant / Reference: PA 2022-07

The candidates for this position need to demonstrate the following criteria:

Education:

  • A relevant first level university degree or equivalent professional experience.

Knowledge and Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience at national or international level in supporting programme/project operations, including at least 2 years of experience with an NGO, donor or national/international organization
  • Good knowledge of the EU humanitarian aid system
  • Good knowledge of International NGOs, UN Aid Agencies and Red Cross Movement
  • Good understanding of Humanitarian Aid principles, policies and standards
  • Previous experience in representation is an asset
  • Previous experience in protection sector is an asset
  • Experience in the usage of computers and office software packages (MS Word, Excel, etc).

Job description:

The jobholder carries out activities to contribute to the delivery of an effective humanitarian response. The jobholder contributes to assessments, monitoring and evaluations of projects, as well as to the analysis of the humanitarian context in the area of coverage. In addition to the availability for travelling outside/inside the country when required.

Languages:

  • An excellent knowledge of English (verbal & writing).
  • An excellent knowledge of Arabic (verbal & writing).
  • Knowledge of French language is an asset.

This is a local position opened to nationals and other residents of Amman with valid work and residence permits. DG ECHO applies a policy of equal opportunities. The contract is initially for one year with the possibility of renewal subject to a 3 months’ probationary period. As an indication, the monthly basic salary is on average approximately JOD 1,931 which corresponds to 5 years’ relevant work experience. The salary will be adapted according to the exact duration of relevant professional experience supported by a work certificate. In addition to this, the employee will also receive other allowances and benefit.
