EU's REEE II-TA and JOHUD Sign Technical MoU on Green energy

The Jordan Hashemite Fund for Human Development (JOHUD) and European Union (EU)-funded technical Assistance to Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Programme in Jordan (REEE II-TA), on Wednesday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen cooperation and coordination between them, especially in the green energy sector.

The MoU aims to provide technical support to the energy and environment projects implemented by JOHUD and its Community Development Centres in various governorates. It also includes providing training for JOHUD staff in the fields of renewable energy and energy efficiency, as well as building its capacity in this field through the preparation of specialized training materials.

The agreement was signed by the Executive Director of the Jordan Hashemite Fund for Human Development Farah Dagestani and the Head of REEE II-TA, Emile Al-Assi, in the presence of the European Union Ambassador to Jordan, H.E. Mr. Andrea Matteo Fontana.

The signing of the agreement comes within the framework of  JOHUD interest in the green energy sector and its keenness to preserve the environment by deepening and consolidating the concepts of green economy and sustainable clean energy, in cooperation with the programme to serve the national interest and contribute to achieving comprehensive and sustainable development goals.

The agreement also aims to enhance JOHUD's role in spreading awareness of renewable energy through its centres in the Kingdom, and introduce REEE II-TA activities and vision to highlight the EU efforts in this field.

H.E. Ambassador Andrea Matteo Fontana said during the signing ceremony: "Our support to JOHUD's green activities is an example of how the EU-Jordan partnership reflects the needs of both the energy and community development sectors. The EU is today Jordan's main partner in Green Energy development with more than 160 M Euro in bilateral support."

JOHUD has been working for 40 years to lead national development efforts, alleviate poverty and empower communities in the Kingdom.

The JOHUD efforts are particularly focused on the rights of vulnerable groups such as women, youth and people with disabilities, through Princess Basma Centers network throughout the Kingdom, it has a positive and sustainable impact in collaboration with local communities and partner institutions.

REEE II is the second sector support programme to Jordan's energy sector, with a 90 M Euro budget, to continue to contribute to the development and implementation of effective policies that would help Jordan reach its renewable energy and energy efficiency (REEE) targets for 2020. It also aims at building national capacities of public, private and NGO institutions.
