The EU Delegation to The Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan is seeking to recruit a Translator / Interpreter. To contribute to the Info& Comm activities of the delegation and to ensure the translation English-Arabic of key texts to guarantee the ability of the Delegation to communicate mostly in written Arabic.

The European Union (EU) is an economic and political partnership between 28 European countries. It plays an important role in international affairs through diplomacy, trade, development aid and working with global organizations. Abroad, the EU is represented through more than 140 diplomatic representations, known also as EU Delegations, which have a similar function to those of an embassy.

 

The EU Delegation to The Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan is seeking to recruit a Translator / Interpreter. To contribute to the Info& Comm activities of the delegation and to ensure the translation English-Arabic  of key texts to guarantee the ability of the Delegation to communicate mostly in written Arabic. 

Under this job function the successful candidate will have the following tasks:

 

+ TRANSLATION - Translator

 

  • Translate documents from Arabic into English and vice versa.

  • Act as interpreter when needed.

  • Translate press releases/statements issued by the Delegation and/or EU HQs into Arabic.

  • Oversee the production of the Delegation’s publications in Arabic on its various production stages; contribute in producing information material on Delegation’s activities.

  • Provide support for Administration section in drafting of and/or reviewing drafts prepared by this Section.

  • Contribute to the reporting requirements of the Delegation.

  • Act as backup to the Press and Information Officer (PIO) when the PIO is absent.

  • When needed, follow the Jordanian local press and help prepare the daily press reviews on issues of interest to the EU.

  • When needed, help producing press releases on specific topics of interest to the Delegation activities.

 

 

The working hours will be 37.5 hours per week from Sunday to Thursday. The place of employment is Amman and the post is group II.

The successful candidate will have the following profile and qualities:

 

Job requirements:

 

Professional experience:

 

  • The candidate must have a proven professional experience of at least 3 years in translation of official and press documents as well as 3 years' experience in interpretation.

  • Experience on dealing with press issues would be an asset.

  • Excellent knowledge of computer applications: Excel and Word.

     

    Education

    University Degree on translation, languages, interpretation on similar is recommended

    Languages:

  • Excellent command of English and Arabic a must, knowledge of French would be an asset.

    Communication:

  • Excellent communication skills, oral and written

  • Good capacity to present complex matters clearly

  • Good skills in intercultural communication

    Interpersonal:

  • Ability to work as a member of a team

  • Sensitivity to cultural differences

    Intellectual:

  • Good analytical skills and capacity of synthesis

    Management Organizational

    Excellent ability to work independently regarding the day to day work

    Selection procedure

     

    The selection procedure will take place in two different and successive steps:

     

    1. Pre-selection: the selection committee will make a pre-selection on the basis of the qualifications and the professional experience described in the CV and motivation letter.

     

    2. Selection: the candidates short-listed at the pre-selection step will be invited for a written test then for an interview so that the selection Committee can evaluate these candidates objectively and without prejudice on the basis of their qualifications, professional experience and linguist skills, as listed in the present vacancy notice.
