The European Commission’s European Civil protection and Humanitarian aid Operations (ECHO), funds relief operations for victims of natural disasters and conflicts outside the European Union. For humanitarian aid, the Commission works with about 200 operational partners, including UN agencies and non-governmental organizations (NGOs). Aid is channelled impartially, straight to victims, regardless of race, ethnic group, religion, gender, age, nationality or political affiliation.


The ECHO Amman is seeking to recruit one Programme Assistant (Reference PA 2018-01). As a part of the Jordan regional team, the Programme Assistant of the Amman Regional Office will carry out activities such as:

  • Situation analysis and assessments related to the delivery of an effective humanitarian response;
  • Analysis of DG ECHO-partners’ project proposals;
  • Monitoring, evaluation and coordination of ECHO-funded projects;
  • Reporting and programme administration;
  • Assisting in all programme related activities of DG ECHO;
  • Liaising with partners in an advisory capacity, local authority and institutions;
  • Actively participate in meetings;
  • Act as reference person for the regional information systems, including data collection, collation, management and analysis;
  • Produce and analyse operational data;
  • Support to the regional office management tasks;
  • Conduct field missions and provide surge support to country offices.



  • A relevant first level university degree or equivalent professional experience;
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant experience at national or international level in supporting programme/project operations; including at least 2 years of experience with an NGO's, donor or national/international organisation;
  • Good knowledge of the EU humanitarian aid system;
  • Good knowledge of International NGOs, UN Aid agencies and Red Cross Movement;
  • Good understanding of Humanitarian Aid principles, policies and standards;
  • Experience in the usage of computers and office software packages (MS Word, Excel, etc);
  • Experience in developing and managing databases;
  • Mapping/ graphic skills;
  • An excellent knowledge of English (verbal & writing) and Arabic.


The position is open to all nationals of Jordan and other residents holding a valid working permit or able to obtain such working permit before the foreseen recruitment.
