‘’Comics for Humanity’’ - 4th edition of Comics Week held in Jordan

On 21-27 May, the 4th edition of the Comics Week took place in Jordan under the theme ‘’Comics for Humanity’’. The event which is a celebration of visual arts and intercultural dialogue was organised by the European Union in Jordan and the EU National Institutes for Culture (EUNIC), in cooperation with various European embassies (Belgium, France, Greece, Italy and Spain) under the patronage of Princess Wijdan Al Hashemi.

The event, which has become a staple of the Jordanian cultural agenda since its inception in 2020, featured artworks by 5 European and 15 Jordanian comic artists. The works of students from 4 Jordanian schools, aged 14-16, reflecting humanity through comics, was also showcased. Workshops with Jordanian and European artists were organised alongside the event, providing visitors and comics’ fans with an opportunity to appreciate original artworks, published comic books, as well as interact with some of the featured artists.

On 20 May, during the opening ceremony, the EU Ambassador to Jordan, Pierre-Christophe Chatzisavas, highlighted the unique power of visual arts in storytelling, raising awareness, and supporting intercultural dialogue. He emphasised that the event is a tribute to the victims of war and a reminder of the primacy of human rights and international law.
