EU launches annual report on cooperation with Indonesia, highlighting progress in achieving Green Recovery

The 2021 edition of the EU-Indonesia Cooperation Publication was launched today by Indonesia’s Minister for National Development Planning, Suharso Monoarfa, and the Ambassadors of the EU and the EU Member States in Indonesia. The publication displays the broad range of development cooperation programmes of “Team Europe”, standing for the European Union (EU) and its Member States.

The theme of the publication is “Green Recovery”: an inclusive and sustainable recovery from the pandemic is key to EU’s and Indonesia’s development priorities.

EU’s new programming cycle from 2021 onwards will aim to build a comprehensive and inclusive “Green Agenda” with Indonesia which will include more green investments, trade, cooperation on renewable energy and circular economy, with the ultimate goal of moving jointly towards climate neutrality.

Through joint efforts, the EU and Indonesia can overcome the health crisis and ensure a green and sustainable recovery. So far, Team Europe has dedicated EUR 200 million to support Indonesia’s efforts to fight the pandemic. A new programme was launched recently with the Indonesian Ministry of Health and WHO to strengthen Indonesia’s health system and preparedness for future pandemics.

The new publication also provides an overview of support for vulnerable communities, civil society organisations and technical assistance to Indonesian government agencies.

The EU Ambassador to Indonesia Vincent Piket said, ”I am proud to present this year’s publication, with its collection of stories from our programme beneficiaries. It reminds us that our partnership with Indonesia not only serves to address global challenges, but also delivers benefits to individuals and communities affected. The EU is a strong and steadfast partner of Indonesia. We support its progress to realising the SDGs by 2030, and its goal of becoming a high-income country by 2045. The EU believes that this goal must and can go hand in hand with climate action and with the sustainable use of the natural resources.”
