Federica Mogherini meets with Iranian Foreign Minister Zarif

High Representative/Vice-President Federica Mogherini met today with the Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Mohammad Javad Zarif, in the margins of the 2019 Munich Security Conference.

They discussed the state of implementation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA). The High Representative reiterated the EU's firm determination to preserve the JCPOA, which continues to deliver on its objectives and is crucial for both regional and global security. She also underlined the need for continued full and effective implementation of the deal by all parties, and in this regard both High Representative Mogherini and Minister Zarif discussed the recent registration of INSTEX in France and committed to work together for its further operationalisation.

High Representative Mogherini and Foreign Minister Zarif had an exchange of views also on a number of other issues, from human rights to the implementation of the FATF Action Plan, to regional crises, including in Syria, in Yemen and Afghanistan.
