Are you a university student interested in international relations?  Is a working experience part of your course?  Are you curious to learn more about work of a diplomatic mission and how the EU Delegation represents EU interests and values in Japan?

What we offer?

A non-remunerated traineeship of up to 6 months for students undertaking a compulsory training as a part of their studies, within the different Sections of the EU Delegation to Japan.

 

Traineeships are available in the following sections:

 

Are you eligible for a non-remunerated traineeship?

  • You are a student enrolled in the 3rd, 4th, 5th year at a local Japanese University
  • You are following a curriculum which includes a training period as a compulsory part of your course and you are already residing in Japan
  • You are a national of an EU Member State, pre-accession State or a national of Japan
  • You have no previous professional experience in the EU Institutions (longer than 6 weeks)

 

Placement, Working Environment and Conditions

The placement of trainees will have to be approved by the university.  Trainees will be under the direct supervision of a Traineeship Advisor at the EU Delegation.  Upon successful completion of the traineeship period, the EU Delegation will issue the trainee with a Certificate.

The deadline for submitting applications are as follows:

1 November - earliest start in January

1 May - earliest start date in July

 

If selected for a traineeship, you will need to provide the following documents:

  • Language certificates
  • Passport/ID card
  • Extract from the “judicial record”
  • Insurance certificate
  • Medical certificate
  • Traineeship agreement (please check the sample below) signed by the trainee and the University 

 

Before applying you are requested to examine the general eligibility criteria for a compulsory traineeships (Article 9 of the Decision ADMIN(2017)28 - Unpaid compulsory traineeships for students already residing and studying in the host country)

All costs related to travel inside the country of residence, insurance, accommodation and living expenses must be borne by either the trainee or the University.

Applications from non-eligible candidates will not be considered. After the evaluation of all applications, shortlisted candidates will be contacted and invited for an interview. Unsuccessful candidates will be notified by email. In case the selected candidate is not able to present the required documents, his/her candidacy will be rejected.   You cannot apply for unpaid traineeship and paid traineeship at the same time.
