Virtual high-level launch of the first-ever Global Report on Protecting Young People in Civic Space

18 June 2021, New York - Virtual Youth Peace and Security Event

The event will take place on June 18th (9am – 11am EDT) and it will be co-hosted by the Office of the Secretary-General’s Envoy on Youth, the Permanent Mission of Norway to the United Nations in New York and the European Union Delegation to the United Nations in New York in partnership with OHCHR, Peace Direct, CIVICUS, the Major Group for Children and Youth, and Search for Common Ground.


The event aims to bring together high-level government representatives, representatives of international and regional organizations, civil society and youth to raise awareness about:

  • The importance of upholding young people’s right to freedom of expression and freedom of peaceful assembly and of association;
  • Importance of continuing the efforts to create safer and more enabling civic spaces for young people.


It will also include an official launch of the first-ever Global Report on Protecting Young People in Civic Space, commissioned by the Office of the Secretary-General’s Envoy on Youth and supported by the Government of Norway, in collaboration with the Protection Working Group under the Global Coalition on Youth, Peace and Security, and led by Ambassador Ms. Rita Izsák-Ndiaye, the former UN Special Rapporteur on Minority Issues and the current Special Representative on Children and Security at the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe.
