Europe Day 2021-Nepal
This year, we mark the 71st anniversary of the 'Schuman declaration'. The declaration traces back to 9 May 1950 in Paris, when the French Foreign Minister Robert Schuman set out in a speech his idea for a new form of political cooperation in Europe, which would make war between European nations unthinkable. This was the beginning of a peace project that ultimately led to the creation of the European Union (EU) as we know it today and every year on 9 May we celebrate this date as 'Europe Day'.
Every year on 9 May, the EU institutions in Europe, as well as its delegations and offices all over the world organise a variety of activities for all ages to celebrate Europe Day and raise awareness of the EU.
This year’s celebrations come amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. In keeping with the social distancing measures, online events will replace “traditional” Europe Day celebrations. We may not be able to share physical spaces, but we can still be together virtually.
Happy Europe Day 2021.
