The arrival of AstraZeneca today was made possible by COVAX facility where Team Europe is the biggest contributor.

On 4 April, 84,000 doses of AstraZeneca (Vaxzevria) vaccines against COVID-19 arrived in Azerbaijan within the COVAX initiative. Azerbaijan plans to import 432,000 doses of AstraZeneca vaccine by late May and 218,790 doses of Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine within eight weeks. Head of the EU Delegation to Azerbaijan Kestutis Jankauskas said at the airport:  "EU contribution made development and production of these vaccines and delivery to Azerbaijan possible today and not next year. AstraZeneca is a safe and effective vaccine approved by the European Medicine Agency. Thanks to WHO, UNICEF, and other contributors! Thanks to COVAX and Team Europe, people in Azerbaijan will now have a choice of vaccines. We encourage people to get vaccinated! This is the best way to beat COVID!"
