Promoting Resilience and Peaceful Coexistence Among Displacement Affected Communities in Northeast Nigeria

The overall objective of this programme is to empower the people affected by displacement in Borno state to build more resilient and peaceful communities.

 

Expected results:

  • Improved access to livelihoods opportunities;
  • Provision of Information, Counselling and Legal assistance (ICLA);
  • Strengthened advocacy for the Housing Land and Property (HLP) rights of the displacement affected population. 

 
Main activities:

  • Training and provision of start-up kits for on-farm and off-farm income generation opportunities;
  • ICLA support to target groups related to two focus areas: HLP Rights and Legal Identity;
  • Training of local justice players (statutory and traditional) to better uphold these rights;
  • Awareness raising among communities regarding HLP rights;
  • Trainings and awareness sessions on community cohesion and dialogue;
  • Production of related HLP study resulting in advocacy events to promote HLP rights and influence policy. 

 
Main accomplishments to date:

  • Contract start date 1/11/2016;
  • 800(M 335, F 465)  poor households trained in Selection, Planning and Management (SPM) of small scale businesses and supported with business starter up cash grant;
  • 558 (M 409, F 149) poor households trained and supported with backyard garden inputs for vegetable crop production;
  • 550 (M490, F 60) farming households reached for cereal food production out of which 200 HHs have been trained and supported with farming inputs;
  • 578 (M 459, F 119) beneficiaries received support for security of tenure through tenancy agreements between them and the landowners;
  • 475 (M 346, F129) IDPs received assistance to replace their lost ID cards through mobile identity registration activities;
  • 27 Community forums on conflict resolution, Housing Land Property, Collaborative Dispute Resolution and peaceful co-existence conducted with 555 beneficiaries (M 515, F 40).
