India finds itself in a situation where 2006 witnessed a landmark judgment by the Supreme Court on police reforms. In the Prakash Singh vs Union of India judgement, the apex court put forward seven directives in order to bring about transformation of the police into a professional, efficient and accountable organization. 10 years on, not a single state (out of total 28) has fully complied with the directives.
