On 2 June the Israeli minister for Transport Mr. Katz, the Director General of the Eurocontrol Mr. Brenner, in the presence of Ambassador Faaborg-Andersen have signed the agreement concerning Israel's joining the Eurocontrol, the European organization, grouping now 42 countries and in charge of aviation safety and flight coordination on the Continent.
The regrettable trend of confiscations and demolitions since the beginning of the year, including of EU-funded humanitarian assistance, was confirmed once again this week by demolitions of temporary shelters in Jabal al-Baba, a Bedouin community in the so-called E1 area. Bedouin communities in the central West Bank have faced repeated confiscations and demolitions in recent years, as part of the plans which have put them in grave humanitarian need and risk ending in forced transfers.
The European Union and Israel share a long common history, marked by growing interdependence and cooperation. Both share the same values of democracy, respect for freedom and rule of law and are committed to an open international economic system based on market principles. Over five decades of trade, cultural exchanges, political cooperation and a developed system of agreements have cemented these relations.
Israeli bodies are eligible to apply to numerous EU project-based programmes. Some of these are managed by the Delegation which itself issues calls for proposals while others are managed by other Delegations or by the European Commission in Brussels
