High Representative Federica Mogherini today called on Israel and the Palestinians to make renewed efforts to kick start peace negotiations.

At its meeting in Munich on 12 February 2016, the Middle East Quartet reiterated its concern that current trends are imperiling the viability of the two-state solution. Underlining its commitment to supporting a comprehensive, just, and lasting resolution to the Palestinian–Israeli conflict, the Quartet agreed to prepare a report on the situation on the ground.

We risk a new escalation, and the very chance of peace is slipping away. We cannot afford it.

Threats are increasing, some of these threats are the same that Europe is facing. But this new situation is posing also some new opportunities that were not there before, decades ago.
