Every girl and woman has the right to live a life free of violence and pain. And yet, more than 200 million women and girls across the world have been forced to undergo the painful and traumatic practice of Female Genital Mutilation, including 500,000 living in Europe. Millions more girls are at risk of being cut: 68 million girls in 25 countries by 2030.

The Israeli Government’s decision not to renew the mandate of the Temporary International Presence in Hebron (TIPH), which has played an important role in preventing violence between Palestinians and Israeli settlers in Hebron., risks further deteriorating the already fragile situation on the ground.

 

In line with the statement issued by the contributing countries to the mission, the EU stresses Israel's obligations under international law to protect the Palestinian people in Hebron, as well as in other parts of the occupied Palestinian territory.

political exchanges. This, together with the geographical proximity and interdependence,
has contributed to institutionalise a strong relationship between the EU and the League of
Arab States (LAS). Within this framework, the common aim is to develop closer cooperation to
realise their shared aspirations to ensure peace, security and prosperity in both regions.

On Monday 28 January, together with the Kantor Centre for the Study of Contemporary European Jewry, EU Ambassador to Israel Emanuele Giaufret, hosted an event commemorating International Holocaust Remembrance Day. The event was attended by Prof. Joseph Klafter, President of Tel Aviv University, Mr. Itzhak Herzog, Chairman of the Jewish Agency, and Prof. Dina Porat, together with ambassadors of the European Union member states.
