Climate Diplomacy Week 2020 takes place from 24 October to 6 November 2020 in Indonesia. A number of events are held to foster dialogue and cooperation on climate change, showcase success stories and inspire further action.

Climate Diplomacy Week (CDW)  is an annual worldwide campaign, conducted by the EU, to highlight positive global action and collaboration on climate change. In Indonesia, CDW 2020 is held from 24 October to 6 November 2020, presenting at least 34 activities. The theme for CDW 2020 in Indonesia is “Act Today for Tomorrow”.

Taking part in CDW 2020 are the EU Delegation, eight embassies of EU Member States (Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland and Sweden), the Indonesian government, and approximately 100 non-profit organisations, youth groups, community representatives, private sectors, celebrities and opinion leaders, as well as environmental activists and young climate warriors.

“Climate change is, with COVID-19, the most critical global challenge. Youth and civil society around the globe have been vocal about climate change, they are making their voice heard, and they have asked governments, companies and all of us to take action. There is no doubt that we have to act today for our tomorrow,” said H.E. Vincent Piket, the EU Ambassador to Indonesia.

“In Europe we have set in motion a very large and comprehensive policy for that. It is called the European Green Deal. It is our roadmap towards making the EU’s economy and society truly green, circular and carbon neutral by the year 2050. The Green Deal is for Europe but we know that we have to partner all over the globe in order to reach the goals formulated in the Paris Climate Agreement. That is why we reach out to Indonesia as one of our very important partners from a global and climate perspective. We believe there is tremendous scope for the EU and Indonesia to step up cooperation on green recovery and circular economy,” added EU Ambassador Piket.

CDW 2020 highlights five key climate change related issues:

  • our forests
  • our oceans
  • responsible production and consumption
  • a greener economy
  • urban climate actions

Activities are all presented online, in the form of webinar, talk show, dialogue, panel discussion, workshop, movie screening, fashion show, music concert, quiz and competition, cooking demo, coffee brewing and many more.
