European Higher Education Fair in Indonesia goes online, presenting 140 top European universities

The 12th edition of the European Higher Education Fair (EHEF) in Indonesia, the world's largest European study fair, will be organised virtually, starting from 21 to 28 November 2020. A total of 140 higher education institutions will participate in the Fair, namely from 12 European Union (EU) Member States - Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Denmark, Ireland, Spain, Finland, Sweden, Hungary, Poland - plus United Kingdom and Switzerland. The virtual Fair will be officially launched on 21 November 2020 by H.E. Mr Vincent Piket, EU Ambassador to Indonesia, together with an official of the Ministry of Education and Culture of Republic of Indonesia.

Ambassador Piket said “This is the first time we hold EHEF virtually. We do this to adapt to the present circumstances and to allow both exhibitors and visitors to interact from the safety and comfort of home during coronavirus-related restrictions. The virtual fair also has the advantage of allowing participants from across Indonesia, from Sabang in Aceh to Merauke in Papua, to virtually visit the fair.”

“Europe is a very popular destination for Indonesian students and researchers. More than 4,000 students depart to study in Europe every year and more than 8,500 Indonesian students and scholars currently studying in Europe. Every year, around 1,600 scholarships are provided to Indonesian students and scholars by the EU – through its flagship Erasmus+ programme – and by the EU Member States. Every year, the Erasmus+ programme also enables more than 200 European scholars and students to come to Indonesian universities to conduct lectures, training and undertake short-term credit exchanges. Notwithstanding the pandemic, 225 Indonesian students and scholars have departed to Europe under the Erasmus+ programme this year,” added Ambassador Piket.

Prof. Nizam, Director General of Higher Education, Ministry of Education and Culture said "The EHEF 2020 is an excellent opportunity for Indonesian students and lecturers to obtain information on study in Europe and scholarships provided by the EU and its Member States. The EHEF supports establishment of networks and cooperation among universities in Europe and Indonesia. We would like to invite our universities to engage and develop mutual partnerships in education, research and development with European top universities. This event is a very good opportunity to know each other and to foster friendship and collaboration between European and Indonesian higher education institutions.”

“On behalf of the Ministry of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia, we would like to convey our full appreciation to the European Union for the organisation of the EHEF in Indonesia every year. We also sincerely thank the EU and its Member States for their continued support given to Indonesian students, scholars and higher education institutions. Special thanks and appreciation to HE Pak Vincent Piket for his passion in promoting friendship between EU & Indonesia” added Prof. Nizam.

The virtual EHEF 2020 will be an opportunity for Indonesian students, scholars and researchers to meet and discuss education prospects with representatives from European universities. In addition to the virtual fair, EHEF 2020 will present a series of Study in Europe webinars and a series of European University webinars. It is expected that EHEF 2020 will be attended by 2,000 visitors per day.
