EU launches Youth Sounding Board (YSB) Indonesia to boost young people’s engagement on EU-Indonesia Cooperation

The Delegation of the European Union (EU) convened today (26/6) the inaugural meeting of the EU Youth Sounding Board (YSB) in Indonesia, an initiative aimed at boosting young people’s engagement on EU-Indonesia cooperation. The YSB comprises 15 bright individuals aged 18-25 from across Indonesia who will act as a youth advisory group to the EU Delegation.

“Indonesia's youth is vibrant, and crucial for an increasingly prosperous future. The European Union is convinced that Indonesia’s demographic dividend is a key element for the nation’s golden vision 2045. The EU Delegation in Jakarta is therefore pleased to announce that it is setting up a Youth Sounding Board, so that our cooperation with Indonesia can become more participatory, and more relevant for young people across the country. This year’s Youth Sounding Board Program received hundreds of applications, and the 15 members, selected from all over Indonesia, were chosen after a meticulous selection process. Congratulations, and let’s work together!” said H.E. Denis Chaibi, EU Ambassador to Indonesia.

The YSB members will perform their duties for the period of 2024-2025 that include providing advices to plans and activities of the EU Delegation to Indonesia to ensure youth participation and empowerment, and establish networks with youths from various parts of Indonesia to exchange their experience and expertise. The YSB will hold regular meetings to discuss current affairs and pressing issues in which the YSB could take part in providing local solutions and participate in capacity building activities organised by the EU Delegation.

The 15 individuals are young activists and local trailblazers in the fields of the environment and climate change, education, science and technology, human rights, gender, entrepreneurship and health. The group consists of eight males and seven females, originating from the regions of Aceh, Riau, South Sumatra, Lampung, Banten, Jakarta, West Java, Central Java, Yogyakarta, West Nusa Tenggara, South Sulawesi, Maluku and Southwest Papua.
