European Ambassador and Senior Diplomats visit Brunei to promote the EU and enhance linkages

A delegation of 14 European Union (EU) diplomats – including 12 Ambassadors accredited to Brunei Darussalam and 2 Deputy Heads of Mission*) – are in Bandar Seri Begawan on Tuesday (7/2) for a two-day visit focusing on enhancing EU-Brunei and EU-ASEAN relations. The visit provides an opportunity to discuss matters of bilateral importance, including strengthening political ties and advancing trade relations, as well as a range of regional and global issues.

Earlier on Tuesday, the EU diplomats will meet with Dato Paduka Dr Haji Mohd Amin Liew bin Abdullah, the Deputy Minister of Finance of Brunei Darussalam, and Dato Paduka Haji Erywan bin Pehin Datu Pekerma Jaya Haji Yusof, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade. Later in the afternoon, the delegation is scheduled to meet with Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Paduka Haji Ali bin Haji Apong, the Minister of Primary Resources and Tourism of Brunei Darussalam.

A press conference is also foreseen to take place at 18:30 local time at the residence of the Ambassador of France , followed by a presentation of a prize to Mr Azam Adam, the finalist from Brunei and one of the 10 winners of a youth photo competition to mark the 40th Anniversary of EU-ASEAN relations .

On Wednesday, the EU diplomats will meet with First Admiral (Rtd) Dato Seri Pahlawan Abdul Aziz bin Haji Mohd Tamit, Deputy Minister of Defence of Brunei Darussalam, and with Awang Adi Shamsul bin Haji Sabli, the Permanent Secretary for Industry of the Ministry of Energy and Industry of Brunei Darussalam.

The EU is Brunei's 5th largest trading partner at an overall value of almost €1 billion. In 2015, the EU accounts for 9.1% of Brunei's total external trade, providing 17.2% of Brunei’s imports. For more on EU-Brunei trade, access HERE
