EU-India to discuss maritime security in the Indian Ocean region

NEW DELHI, 6 February 2019: Leading Experts and senior officials from the EU and India will come together on 7-8 February in New Delhi to share strategic perspectives on the maritime security risks, challenges and opportunities in the Indian Ocean; and identify areas of shared interests for future bilateral coordination and cooperation.

Deliberations will be held at the workshop “Securing the maritime commons: India, the European Union and Indian Ocean maritime security” organized by National Maritime Foundation (NMF) and Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) and supported by the Delegation of the European Union to India.

The workshop will focus on cooperation on the Indian Ocean, notably on security and governance, building on counter-piracy activities, and promoting respect for the international law of the sea.
