Policy Officer (Temporarily)

The European Union (EU) is an economic and political partnership between 27 European countries. It plays an important role in international affairs through diplomacy, trade, development aid and working with global organisations. Abroad, the EU is represented through more than 140 diplomatic representations, known also as EU Delegations, which have a similar function to those of an embassy.

We offer

We offer a post as Policy Officer in an international environment in the Political section with the Delegation of the European Union in India, with their office at 5/5 Shanti Niketan, New Delhi 110021. Upon recruitment, the successful candidate will occupy a specific job function as Policy Officer – this job function may be changed in accordance with the needs of the Delegation. Under this job function, and the guidance and supervision of the Head of Section (HoS), the successful candidate will contribute to the work of the Delegation in coordinating the EU's political relations with India. The candidate will be placed in Group 1. The monthly salary will be at the first step of the Local Agent Group I scale, which currently is INR 185,051 before statutory deductions.

Working hours are from 09:00 to 17:30.

Selection Criteria

Minimum Requirements:

  1. University Degree (Master’s in e.g. political studies, political science, international relations, human rights studies, etc.) with a minimum of 5 years of pertinent international relations experience;
  2. Medically fit to perform the required duties;
  3. Enjoys civil rights and permits for employment under local law;
  4. Proven ability to operate fluently in written and spoken English.

The following will be considered an asset:

  1. Working experience in an Embassy or international organisation environment;
  2. Knowledge of French or one European language.

The procedure

After the deadline for applications, the applications will be reviewed by a Selection Committee set up for this purpose. The Selection Committee will prepare a short-list of candidates who are considered to be the most suitable for the post on the basis of a preliminary assessment of the information provided in their application letter and the supporting documents. The short-listed candidates will be invited to an assessment phase, which may include an interview if necessary – during this phase, the Selection Committee will assess the suitability of the candidates for the post.

The candidates who have not been short-listed will not be contacted individually; however, the Delegation will use the same means of publication as for this Vacancy Notice to inform the remaining candidates once the recruitment procedure has been completed and that a candidate has (or has not) been recruited.
