Senior officials and leading experts from the EU and India are coming together on 18-19 September in Brussels to share strategic perspectives on maritime security challenges, and to identify opportunities for future bilateral cooperation in the Indian Ocean region.
The event is the second in a series of workshops on “Securing the maritime commons: India, the European Union and Indian Ocean maritime security”. Building on the first workshop held in New Delhi in February this year, the participants will deliberate on the implementation of security cooperation in the Indian Ocean, seeking to explore pathways for deepening EU-India maritime security cooperation.
The workshop will focus on cooperation in the Indian Ocean, notably on strategic developments and security challenges, promoting a rules-based maritime order, building maritime domain awareness and advancing cooperation in humanitarian assistance and disaster relief and enhancing connectivity in the Indian Ocean region. It will contribute to enhancing EU-India security cooperation, including by facilitating contacts and exchanges among the military.
