This year, 120 engaged young people from Africa and Europe have been selected from a total of 7000 applicants in a Call for Proposal, to discuss issues of common interest to youth on both continents. Participants will put forward a series of recommendations to the AU-EU Summit, related to six thematic areas: skills & education, peace & security, governance, climate & environment, business & job creation, culture & sports. The youth delegates will formulate guiding questions to be followed up by a group selected for the EU-AU Youth Plug-In initiative to develop further ideas and proposals related to the themes.
Investing in youth for a sustainable future” will be an overarching theme when African and European Heads of State meet in Abidjan at the 5th AU-EU Summit on 29-30 November, to discuss the priorities of their partnership for the years to come. By bringing together African and European youth organisations and motivated and engaged young people, the 4th Africa-Europe Youth Summit and the EU-AU Youth Plug-In Initiative will strengthen the participation of youth on both continents in the political process affecting their livelihoods and future prospects.
The Youth Summit is being organised by continental platforms dealing with youth issues in Africa and Europe (the Pan-African Youth Union, the Network of International Youth Organisations in Africa and the European Youth Forum) as well as diaspora organisations (ADYNE, ADYFE and ACP-YPN).
