The EU Delegation to India invites photo-journalists from print and electronic media (websites/blogs/ e-magazines etc.) to send proposals based on desk research for a one month tour of Europe where they would meet representatives of the Indian diaspora from different walks of life, social extraction and family histories now living in the European Union to record their journeys and their contributions. The application process will involve filling out the attached form and submitting 3 copies of published work by 22 June 2016. Selection will made on the basis of previous experience of writing and photography as well as on concept, background research and proposed programme for the one month visit in Europe.
Much has been written about European travelers to India but relatively little is known about Indians in Europe. A cultural project, involving Indian bloggers, freelance writers and photo-journalists to develop the idea that Indians have made useful contributions to the countries of the European Union in several fields will deepen understanding and goodwill between the two regions.
Three selected persons would each be sent to the EU for a month in the summer of 2016 on individual visits during which they would each research and prepare exclusive stories for the EU Delegation featuring individuals and groups of Indian origin. Costs for the one-month visit, including visas, tickets, inter-city travel costs in Europe and living expenses, will be met by the EU Delegation to India. The visits would have to conclude on or before 15 September.
During their travels the 3 selected writers will send photographs with accompanying text of a few lines on their chosen theme(s) and short video clips for publication on EU social media newsletter and website.
Within 20 days of their return they would provide material in the form of 50 or more high resolution photos and accompanying text of not less than 8,000 words for publication in a catalogue and/or book. The photos would also be used by the EU Delegation for a photo exhibition with descriptive captions at one or more appropriate locations.
This material, suitably edited, may be printed by the EU Delegation with/without a publishing partner. While display at various locations and times and/or publication in social and print media will in all cases acknowledge the selected candidates as the authors of their works, copyright and editing rights would rest entirely with the EU Delegation and – if produced in partnership with a publisher – with the publishing partner.
Following acceptance of the text and photographs the three writers-photographers would receive a certificate and a digital camera.
The completed application form should be filled in and returned by email to DELEGATION-INDIA-PRESS@eeas.europa.eu with Diaspora in the subject bar. Clarifications can be sought on email by writing to the same email address on or before 5 pm on 5 June 2016.
