Mogherini on Western Balkans: Shared commitment towards our common future
At the Western Balkans Summit today in London, the EU High Representative/Vice-President Federica Mogherini said the European Union has recognised the work on reforms in the Western Balkans and was accompanying its way towards the European integration. “[They] have been working very hard on reforms, on reconciliation, on good neighbourly relations, on some bilateral agreements that have been historic.”
The London Summit, the fifth one to take place under the Berlin Process, gathered Heads of Government, Foreign Ministers and Ministers of Security and/or Interior from the Western Balkans Six and their counterparts from several EU Member States and high-level EU representatives. They have today taken concrete steps to strengthen cooperation in security, encourage political cooperation and good neighbourly relations, and to increase economic stability.

“We have been all working together to draw the region closer and closer to the EU, politically, economically and security-wise. And we have seen remarkable results, solutions to the most difficult bilateral issues”, High Representative recognised. “The Western Balkans are steadily moving forward. And today we reconfirm that we are together with the region on that path, sharing the commitment towards our common future."
The summit comes after the European Commission published earlier this year its strategy on “A credible enlargement perspective for and enhanced EU engagement with the Western Balkans”, the EU-Western Balkans summit in Sofia on 17 May, and the June European Council, all of which confirm the credible enlargement perspective for the Western Balkans.
