Traineeships in Delegations

Are you a university student interested in international relations? Is a working experience part of your course? Are you curious to learn more about work in a diplomatic mission and how an EU Delegation represents EU interests and values in Hong Kong and Macao?

What we offer?

A non-remunerated traineeship of maximum 6 months for students undertaking a compulsory training as a part of their studies, within the Political, Press and Information Section of the EU Office to Hong Kong and Macao.                                                                                        

Main tasks:

  • research and analysis of information;
  • draft press digests and information bulletins, analytical reports on various policy developments in Hong Kong and Macao;
  • update the Office's social media platforms;
  • attend and participate in meetings, cultural and visibility events, seminars and conferences in Hong Kong and Macao;
  • support the Section in the preparation of visits, missions and meetings as well as follow-up actions.


Are you eligible for a non-remunerated traineeship?

  • You are a student enrolled in the 3rd ,4th, 5th year at a local University
  • You are following curriculum which includes a training period as a compulsory part of your course and you are already residing in the host country
  • You are a national of an EU Member State, pre-accession State or from the country where the Office is accredited
  • You have no previous professional experience in the EU Institutions (longer than 6 weeks)


Placement, Working Environment and Conditions

The placement of trainees will have to be approved by the university. Trainees will be under the direct supervision of a Traineeship Advisor at the EU Office. Upon successful completion of the traineeship period, the EU Office will issue the trainee with a Certificate.

Selection Process

The selection process will be conducted with the collaboration of local universities or based on spontaneous applications. It will be merit-based and aimed at ensuring that all candidates are treated in a fair, transparent and non-discriminatory way.

-    Insurance certificate

-    Medical certificate

-    Traineeship agreement signed by the trainee and the University



You are requested to examine the general eligibility criteria. Applications from non-eligible candidates will not be considered. After the evaluation of all applications received is over, only shortlisted candidates will be contacted and invited for an interview. In case the selected candidate is not able to present all required documents, his/her candidacy will be rejected.
