In line with the EU's values, the European Union Office to Hong Kong and Macao is pleased to present the documentary The Helper. The feature-length documentary chronicles the diverse stories of foreign domestic workers in Hong Kong, exploring the immense contribution they make to society in the face of difficult working conditions and heart-breaking separation from their loved ones.
The film will premier at The Asia Society on May 14 2017 during a red-carpet charity fundraising event, with proceeds benefiting two local non-profit organizations.
The Helper is produced by Cheeky Monkey Productions and co-presented by Goldman Sachs.
Immediately after the screening, there will be a social media campaign with the objective to raise awareness for domestic workers across the world. The “Thanks A Million” campaign aims to collect expressions of “thank you” for domestic workers from around the globe. The effort will continue throughout the year as the film travels to film festivals, theatrical and community screenings.
The campaign will launch with the release of a Facebook tribute video on May 14, 2017 and people can join the campaign by sharing their thanks at www.facebook.com/thehelperdocumentary
Proceeds from the event will benefit Pathfinders, Enrich and FilmAid Asia.
