City Hall Restoration Fund Launched

Head of Delegation of the European Union to Guyana Fernando Ponz Cantó on Wednesday February 19, 2020 joined with the Mayor of Georgetown His Worship Pandit Ubraj Narine and other stakeholders to officially launch the restoration fund for the rehabilitation of the City Hall building which is an iconic structure located in the heart of Georgetown.

The European Union in 2016 had commissioned a study for a Comprehensive Restoration and Sustainable Conservation Management Plan for the historic City Hall. The contract was awarded to EURONET Consulting GEIE for EUR 279,196 [GYD 64M].

The core of the assessment involved: conducting a condition assessment and evaluation of the physical and structural state of City Hall and the City Engineer’s Building; preparation and presentation of a comprehensive green restoration plan and a sustainable conservation management plan for City Hall and the City Engineer’s Buildings; enabling training sessions and strengthening capacity within the relevant stakeholder agencies.
