New EU Ambassador to Guyana Accredited

His Excellency Fernando Ponz Cantó, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the European Union [EU] to the Cooperative Republic of Guyana has presented his credentials to President David Granger at an accreditation ceremony in the Ministry of the Presidency on September 18, 2019.

Ambassador Ponz Cantó in his remarks to President Granger highlighted that, it is his endeavour that, based on shared values, the people of Guyana and of the European Union draw the maximum benefit from their joint work and cooperation. ''Our political partnership is becoming more and more important, and we are looking forward to increasing our coordination in the promotion of common objectives at bilateral, regional and global level, for the benefit of both the EU and Guyana''. Ambassador Ponz also stressed the long-standing joint work on key development and socioeconomic areas as well as the firm shared belief on democracy and human rights. ''We also agree on the need to address the challenge of making the most of natural resources while preserving the environment and fostering sustainable and inclusive development. ''
