Travel to the EU

Useful information on travelling from Guyana, Suriname and for the Dutch Overseas Countries and Territories to the European Union (EU), such as visas, travel restrictions and embassies, and for studying there

The Delegation does not deal with consular or visa matters. These are handled by the individual EU Member States Embassies and Consulates.

The Schengen Visa is required for travelling in 25 European countries and short stays not exceeding three months (90 days). Schengen Visa holders can travel to any of the 25 countries using one single visa, thus avoiding the hassle and expense of obtaining individual visas for each country. The 25 Schengen countries are: Austria, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Norway, Iceland and Switzerland. Since December 2011, Liechtenstein has been an associate member of the Schengen area.

Important: Schengen visa holders are not allowed to live permanently or work in Europe. Schengen visa holders only have the right to travel as a temporary visitor to the member countries.

Citizens of Guyana can seek advice at the offices of the Honorary Consuls who represent the various EU Member States in Guyana.

Other EU Member States which are not part of the Schengen area are Bulgaria, Cyprus, Ireland, Romania and Croatia.
