Legislative elections were held in Guinea-Bissau on 10 March 2019 in a peaceful and orderly manner. The European Union has closely followed and consistently supported the whole electoral process.
Despite the delays, the elections are a positive development for the country's institutional and democratic consolidation. Moreover, they mark an important step forward in the implementation of the Conakry Agreement brokered by ECOWAS, whose diplomatic efforts, electoral assistance and monitoring, as well as the deployment of ECOMIB, have been crucial in the electoral process.
Ahead of the upcoming presidential elections, to be held according to the Constitution, the EU expects same positive dynamics will prevail.
