European Council President Donald Tusk visited Georgia to participate in the XVI “Georgia’s European Way” Batumi Conference as well as meet with Georgian government, political parties and youth.
The focal point of the visit was the Keynote speech delivered at XVI “Georgia’s European Way” Batumi Conference celebrating 10 years of the Eastern Partnership. President Tusk underlined achievements made in this time and stressed that further progress needs to be based on unity and cooperation. Full text of the speech can be found here.
The event was followed up with discussions with Georgian President Zourabichvili and Prime Minister Bakhtadze. Full remarks from President Tusk’s press point with President Zourabichvili can be found here.
The visit also included meetings with Georgian political party leaders, as well as 13 young persons from the EU’s Young European Ambassador’s programme.
In parallel to the visit of President Tusk, numerous other events took part at the XVI Batumi conference, including signature of a new EU support programme for the security sector (more information here) as well as a memorandum of understanding for future investments in Georgia by the EU’s bank, the EIB (more information here.)
