In June 2019, the Political and Security Committee (PSC) of the European Union discussed the update on the implementation of the European Neighbourhood Policy security dimension for the period of July 2018 to June 2019. In general, the European Security and Defence College (ESDC) has opened up a significant part of its academic programme to partner countries. Specific training programmes and courses are provided within the framework of the EaP Panel on Security, CSDP and Civil Protection. The latest course was held in Yerevan in April 2019 on the topic of ‘conflict analysis’.

For 2020, courses on cybersecurity, hybrid threats, conflict analysis and strategic communications are being considered to take place in partner countries. The ESDC is also working on a specific training programme on security and defence for the MENA region. Jordan has expressed an interest in cooperating with the EU on training and capacity building.

So far, about 5 000 officials from partner countries (more specifically from the EaP countries) have received demand-driven training provided by the ESDC and its network partners. Based on long-lasting cooperation, the Ukrainian National Defence University became an associated network partner of the ESDC in September 2018.
