The European Union is holding a seminar on 19-20 September in Tbilisi to discuss labour standards and working conditions in Georgia.

The seminar will discuss labour standards in relation to the economic association and free trade area opened by the Association Agreement between the EU and Georgia. It will also provide for exchanges on concrete cases of enforcement practices in EU and other countries, including by European companies.

The seminar brings together representatives of key Georgian stakeholders in the area – authorities, Parliament of Georgia, the representative social partners including the Georgian Trade Union Confederation and the Georgian Employers Association, civil society organisations, experts and labour practitioners, social partners from EU Member States, other countries closely associated to the EU and the International Labour Office. A session focuses on businesses, where European companies and Georgian businesses will exchange on international and EU labour best practice and legislation.

There is a strong business case for improving labour standards, working conditions and labour market institutions as they are an asset for increasing productivity, enhancing skills, enhancing the added value in the global value chain as well as for sustainable development

Director for Labour Mobility at the Directorate General for Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion at the European Commission, Mr Jordi Curell and Minister of IDPs of the Occupied Territories, Labour, Health and Social Affairs of Georgia, Mr Davit Sergeenko will discuss how to continue the dialogue and cooperation around these issues.
