On 15 June the Center for Strategic Research and Development of Georgia (CSRDG) held an award ceremony for the winners of its annual competition "Students in Support of Social Enterprises". The competition was organized within the EU funded project Social Entrepreneurship – Innovative Approach for Economic and Social Changes. The Competition of 2018 is being held under the Honorary Patronage of the President of Georgia.
During the event Yvonne Gogoll, Human Rights Focal Point at the Delegation of the European Union to Georgia, remarked, "Social enterprises have the potential to have real social impact, especially when involving employees, consumers and other stakeholders. The European Union promotes the ideas of social enterprises which is to combine societal goals with entrepreneurial spirit."
Furthermore, Eka Urushadze, Executive Director at CSRDG, gave a short presentation about CSRDG and its work for the development of social entrepreneurship in Georgia. She stressed the importance of the students' engagement and underlined that EU support made the nationwide scale of the competition possible.
Lika Kiladze, Chairperson of EDEC, highlighted the interest of young people in the concept of social entrepreneurship in Georgian regions, which has increased thanks to the competition.
Petra Benkoe, the President of IWA Georgia, stated, "The existence and development of social enterprises has had an enormous influence on the economy of Europe during the economic crisis. EU supported such contests thought Europe as well as in other countries. participation in such event is great experience for yang entrepreneur."
Competition "Students in Support of Social Enterprises"
This competition has been held annually since 2012. The aim of the competition is to promote the concept of Social Entrepreneurship amongst young people, as well as to help Social Enterprises, operating in Georgia, through youth-led innovative projects. 16 student teams were exposed both to theory and practice on social entrepreneurship through trainings and field visits, while four finalist groups received 1,500 GEL each to implement projects aimed at strengthening social enterprises.

The winning team received a travel grant to explore social entrepreneurship internationally, while all participant teams received prizes.
The Project "Social Entrepreneurship – Innovative Approach for Economic and Social Changes"
The project supports social enterprise development by increasing capacities of public organizations to achieve social and environmental goals and economic strengthening of vulnerable groups. It provides tailor-made support services to social entrepreneurs across Georgia, works with government and business sector to develop legislative and financial support mechanisms, and promote the concept of social entrepreneurship amongst population, especially young people.
It is implemented by The Center for Strategic Research and Development of Georgia (CSRDG) in cooperation with Education Development and Employment Center (EDEC) and Arbeiter Samariter Bund (ABS). The project is funded by the European Union.
