High Representative/Vice-President Mogherini discusses DPRK, Syria and Iran with international partners in the margins of the ASEAN Regional Forum

Today, the High Representative of the European Union/Vice-President Federica Mogherini held in Manila meetings with U.S Secretary of State, Rex Tillerson, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, Sergei Lavrov, Chrystia Freeland, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Canada and Wang Yi, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of China to discuss major international issues.
In these meetings, the HR/VP focused on the nuclear and ballistic missile programmes of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea following her meeting with the Foreign Minister of Republic of Korea Kang yesterday.
The HR/VP debriefed partners on her visit to Tehran for the inauguration ceremony of President Rouhani and welcomed the assessment by all parties in the Joint Commission monitoring the implementation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action on 21 July that commitments under the deal were being implemented by all. Syria was also discussed at length.
The HR/VP stressed the need for progress towards a nationwide ceasefire and intra-Syrian peace deal mediated by the United Nations in Geneva. Finally, the HR/VP also discussed the situation in Ukraine, the Gulf and the Middle East Peace Process.
