On Tuesday, 19 December 2017, at 10.00hrs a Kick-off meeting of the EU funded project “Strengthening the operational and institutional capacities of the Customs Administration” will be organised at the EU Info Centre. This twinning project is implemented by the Agency for European Integration and Economic Development (AEI) and the Junior partner - Customs Department under the Ministry of Finance of Republic of Lithuania in cooperation with the Customs Administration (CARM) from the Beneficiary Country.

The overall objective of the project is to additionally strengthen administrative capacities of CARM and its capacity to implement the Acquis and reforms to meet the EU requirements in the area of customs and bring the country closer to the EU Market and the Customs Union.

The project aims to strengthen the institutional and administrative capacities of CARM and to meet the EU requirements in the enforcement of the Аcquis in the area of customs to hinder illegal trading of goods, to facilitate trade and to introduce further improvements in the area of organization and management implementing adopted strategies for further development of customs operations and procedures.

 The main results of the project are structured in the following components:

    Component 1: Post Clearance Controls and Audit
    Component 2: Risk Management
    Component 3: Laboratory
    Component 4: Training

This project started on 17 September 2017 and shall last for 21 months. It is funded by the European Union with a total budget of EUR 1.6 million.
