EU support for protection of the nature – NATURA 2000 Closing Event

On Wednesday, 15 March 2017, at 11:00hrs, an official closing event of the EU-funded project Strengthening the capacities for implementation of Natura 2000 implemented in cooperation with the Ministry of Environment and Physical Planning will be held at the Arka hotel in Skopje.

At the event, official addresses will be delivered by:

  • H.E. Samuel Žbogar, Head of the Delegation of the European Union  
  • H.E. Bashkim Ameti, Minister of Environment and Physical Planning

The overall objective of the project was to increase the effectiveness of the Beneficiary country’s preparation for EU accession, in area of nature protection. Through its five components, a solid baseline for implementation of Natura 2000 has been established. The national Law for Nature protection was adapted to EU nature aquis, several potential Natura 2000 sites have been identified, digital data base was established, a series of trainings for MoEPP and stakeholders were implemented and a public campaign was launched.

Natura 2000 is an ecological network with the aim to ensure long-term survival of Europe’s most valuable and threatened species and habitats, listed under the EU Birds Directive and the EU Habitats Directive. It takes almost 1/5 of the territory of the European Union, and it is the largest network of protected areas in the World.

The project duration was between January 2016 and mid of March, 2017 and its budget was 1,2 mil euro. The project is implemented by Particip and its consortium partners.
