A Vibrant Celebration of Unity: Europe Day 2025 in Suva Highlights Cultural Diversity and Cooperation

The European Union (EU) Delegation to the Pacific celebrated a successful Europe Day in Suva on Thursday (08 May) evening, commemorating 75 years of the historic Schuman Declaration, which set Europe on a path of peace and prosperity.

The Europe Day Reception, attended by the Honourable Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka, drew a diverse audience and featured an array of cultural performances, culinary delights, and engaging activities that brought the community together in a spirit of shared values and cooperation.

Held at the Novotel Lami, the event included traditional music and dance from the Vou Fiji. The guests also enjoyed savouring authentic European and Fijian dishes, celebrating the culinary diversity of the EU while fostering international friendships.

The EU Ambassador to the Pacific, Her Excellency Barbara Plinkert underlined that:

“The European Union has come to be known as a peace project which has evolved in size and depth over many decades. Partnership, economic integration, and cooperation are therefore key principles not only within our own borders, but also worldwide. We have learned that, even when faced with the greatest challenges, standing for unity in diversity, and working jointly within the EU and with our partners works best for the benefit of all of us. Cooperation and partnership is what we stand for even when the world is changing rapidly and is becoming more fragmented. So, as we celebrate 75 years of European peace and unity since the Schuman Declaration, my message on this Europe Day is that we are determined to remain a reliable, consistent, predictable and principled partner to Fiji and the Pacific.”

The Europe Day celebration stands as a testament to the EU’s commitment to promoting dialogue and collaboration within the Pacific region. This year’s event not only highlighted Europe’s rich cultural tapestry but also reinforced the message that together, we can address global challenges and work toward a sustainable future.
