Suva and Labasa to host European Union Film Festival 2025

Residents of Suva and Labasa will have an opportunity to immerse themselves in the rich cultural tapestry of Europe through the 2025 European Film Festival, organised by the Delegation of the European Union to the Pacific. This year’s festival has an exciting line-up of films displaying the diverse landscapes, stories, and traditions of Europe.

From May 16 to May 24, Suva will host a week-long celebration of captivating films at Damodar City Cinemas. In addition, following the overwhelming support received in Labasa last year, the Friendly North Town will then join the two-day festivities from May 23, with screenings at the newly built Damodar City, ensuring that more Fijians can immerse themselves in the rich cultural tapestry of Europe.

While launching the festival, the European Union’s Chargé d’Affaires a.i. to the Pacific, Nereo Penalver-Garcia said, “We are very happy to bring the EU Film Festival 2025 to the people of Fiji. It is a free, indoor and inclusive event with films for everyone. Through films, the EU hopes to foster cultural exchange and understanding by sharing the cinematic treasures of Europe with our local Fijian audience.”

The festival’s curated program will feature 10 captivating films, each offering a fascinating glimpse into the diverse cultures, landscapes, and narratives that make up the rich European cultural mosaic. The films, this year coming from Croatia, Denmark, France, Greece, Germany, Luxembourg, The Netherlands, Portugal and Romania, will take audiences on a journey across the European continent, exploring universal themes that unite us all. This year’s films cover cross-cultural topics that connect Europe and the Pacific, such as environment, education, human rights as well as friendship and family bonds.

Families, friends, and movie lovers are invited to come together and celebrate the art of storytelling, fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation for the rich diversity that Europe has to offer.
